The contrasts are colossal in the Krokstadelva disaster area. Trond Wernersen lives in the white house at the top of the slope.
One week ago, Trond Wernersen stood despairingly on his veranda for an hour and a half, and watched the fire eat its way up the slope in the Krokstadelva. After an hour and a half he too had to evacuate. - Then I was chased by the police, he says.
On Friday, Trond Wernersen could go home to his house. It stands, seemingly unscathed, while there is only rubble around him. 116 other families are not as lucky.
Through a long night he had no idea if the house even survived the flames. On Saturday morning he saw on TV that the house was still there. - I'm happy about it, but this is sad and awful.
Small children and elderly people have lost their houses. See Trond's own video recording of the flames heading towards the house: The hedge below the house has been burnt. His house, which he built himself, could also end up in ruins.
A house just beyond, in the same row, has completely burned down. I've been lucky with the wind direction.
