France announced that it was against approving FSD for use on European Union roads in its current form, citing safety concerns. Thus, France became the first EU country to oppose the approval of the system throughout the EU. Although French Minister of Transport Philippe Tabarot acknowledged in his video message that FSD offers important technological innovations, he said that the current version does not reach a sufficient level in terms of security.

Drawing attention to risks such as exceeding speed limits and driver distraction, Tabarot stated that they did not find it right to allow the use of the system in these conditions. The French Minister also stated that some other European countries have similar concerns, although he did not name them. It has previously been claimed that Sweden may also oppose the EU-wide ratification of FSD.

Tesla's FSD system is defined as an advanced driver support system that can take over the acceleration, braking and steering control of the car, provided that the driver is behind the wheel and ready to intervene. View in Full Size Within the scope of the process, the Dutch Road Authority (RDW) gave provisional approval for the use of FSD on Dutch roads in April. Following this, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia and Lithuania also initiated the provisional approval process in the same direction.

On the other hand, in Finland and Greece, the FSD system is still at the evaluation stage. The EU-wide approval of the FSD system will be discussed at the session to be held this September and November. In the voting here, a qualified majority will be required to approve the FSD.

On the other hand, FSD is seen as an important product for Tesla that supports the company's sales and provides additional income. Responding to France's statements on the social media platform X, Tesla CEO Elon Musk wrote, "Delaying the approval of FSD in France will lead to loss of life. Tesla plans to expand in the European Union The driving support software he was aiming for, Full Self-Driving (FSD), got stuck at the French obstacle."
