Raphaël Glucksmann has officially entered the race for the 2027 French presidential election, confirming Sunday evening on TF1 that he will take part in the primary organized by the Socialist Party (PS) and his micro-party, Place publique, scheduled for October. "I am a candidate to lift up France. I am not taking this decision lightly, especially in the moment we are going through, the social-democratic figure said on TF1's "20 Heures" news program, putting an end to months of speculation.
Three months after giving himself time to "travel the country" and "bring together (his) political family" ahead of 2027 — even as some of his supporters grew impatient — the MEP has finally thrown his hat into the ring for the Élysée. The announcement marks a reversal for Glucksmann, who until recently refused to consider this option before agreeing to join a process almost tailor-made for him. The "closed competition chosen in early July by PS members, with an electorate limited to members of the two parties, is set to take place in October.
