Two people were seriously injured when a car crashed into a house in the old town of Bamberg, Germany, on Saturday afternoon, according to police. The vehicle broke through the exterior wall of the building and became stuck inside. Witnesses told a dpa reporter that the car first drove through the outdoor seating area of a restaurant, where fortunately no one was sitting at the time of the crash.
The vehicle then broke through a railing and crashed head-on into the house via a lower-lying path. The cause of the accident remains unclear, police said. The Technical Relief Agency (THW) was called to the scene.
It was initially unclear whether the house was at risk of collapsing, according to police. Emergency crews managed to pull the vehicle out of the building in the evening. Structural engineers inspected the accident site. The condition of the two injured people was not immediately disclosed.
