Sydney Marathon Organisers Admit Medal Error Shows Munich Stadium

Sydney Marathon organisers have admitted to an "unfortunate error" after a finisher's medal for the upcoming race mistakenly features a stadium in Munich, Germany, instead of a local Sydney landmark. The "landmarks" side of the participation medal depicts the Allianz Arena in Munich, home of the Bayern Munich football team, rather than Allianz Stadium in Sydney, which the marathon route passes. The error was spotted after the official Sydney Marathon Instagram account revealed the medal design earlier this week, telling runners they would "find the story of the course in the details" of the design.
"A beautiful Sydney skyline brings the course to life, featuring the landmarks runners will experience along the way, the post reads, "starting with the Sydney Harbour Bridge and finishing at the world-famous Sydney Opera House. "A little too much international flavour has found its way onto the back of the finisher's medal, with an incorrect depiction of the stadium, a TCS Sydney Marathon spokesperson said on Sunday. "We're not going to run from it, it was an unfortunate error, though it's certainly given everyone something to talk about this weekend, mostly in good humour.
