Police in Voss, Norway, fired a warning shot while arresting a drunk man in his 50s who was carrying an object that looked like a weapon, authorities said. The man was taken into custody on Saturday evening. Police received a report at 9:46 p.m. about a man who was shouting and screaming.
"There was no direct threat situation, but the man appeared unstable and had said himself that he was armed, police said. Armed officers responded to the scene to gain control of the man. During the arrest, police chose to fire a warning shot.
"No one was injured during the operation, police said. It was dark at the scene, and the man was holding an object in his hand that could appear to be a handgun. When police gained control of him, it turned out the object was not a weapon after all.
The man, who was intoxicated, has been placed in a drunk tank, according to police. The location of the incident was not specified beyond Voss, Norway.
