🇺🇸 United StatesAlcaraz Will Team Up in the Mixed Doubles at the US Open, After Organizers Awarded the Pair a Wildcard Into the Main Draw of the Competition
The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, 44, from the United States, and the 23-year-old Spaniard will compete together at the year's final major. The mixed doubles event begins with qualifying on Monday, with the main draw starting Tuesday. Another high-profile duo in the field features record Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia and world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus.
Alcaraz returns to the tour in New York after a four-month injury layoff. The seven-time Grand Slam winner suffered a wrist injury in mid-April at the ATP tournament in Barcelona, forcing him to miss the French Open and Wimbledon. He is the defending singles champion in New York and, despite the long absence, remains ranked No. 3 in the world behind Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev.
Sinner, however, will not play at the US Open, having withdrawn from the ongoing Cincinnati event due to a knee injury. For Williams, it marks a return to the US Open, where she last played singles in 2022. The six-time US Open singles champion won the mixed doubles title at the tournament in 1998 with Max Mirnyi. Whether she will also enter singles, like her sister Venus Williams, 46, remains unclear.
Serena Williams made her comeback in July at Wimbledon. The mixed doubles competition is part of the US Open, which runs in New York.
