A 17-year-old girl has died after a young man attacked her school with a sword in Fagersta, Sweden, police said. The attack on Friday at Brinell high school in the small town also wounded three teenage boys, according to the MTI news agency, citing Swedish police. The 18-year-old suspect, a former student at the school, was arrested at the scene, police said.
The girl's body was found in the building shortly after the arrest. Contrary to earlier reports that the attacker was shot in the leg when captured, police said they did fire their service weapons but did not injure him, a police spokesperson told the Aftenbladet daily on Saturday. The suspect has been remanded in custody on suspicion of murder and multiple counts of attempted murder, prosecutors said.
Two boys aged between 12 and 17 were seriously injured, one requiring urgent surgery. The severity of the third victim's injuries, also under 18, was not disclosed. No official motive has been given.
Police are conducting an intensive investigation, carrying out two house searches and looking into online communities that may have influenced the young man. Mourners have placed flowers and candles near the school. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and opposition Social Democrat leader Magdalena Andersson visited the site on Saturday morning, expressing condolences to the victim's family and visiting the injured in hospital.
The campaign for the parliamentary election scheduled for September 13 has been suspended due to the mourning. The post Karddal követett el vérengzést egy fiatal egy svédországi iskolában, egy 17 éves lány meghalt first appeared on 24.hu.
