The Azzurre, coached by Velasco, followed up their opening win against Croatia with a dominant performance, with standout displays from Antropova and Egonu. The first set saw Italy race to an 8-2 lead thanks to a stellar start from Antropova and Egonu, forcing Montenegro to call a timeout. Antropova continued to shine, delivering a diagonal spike for 18-9 and closing out a set dominated by the Italians at 21-11. In the second set, Italy extended their lead in the middle phase and maintained their margin.
A spike from Giovannini sealed the set and gave Italy a 2-0 advantage. The third set began with Italy in full flight, leading 12-6 as they troubled Montenegro's reception. Nwakalor's blocked attack brought Montenegro closer at 14-12, but a timeout from Velasco helped the Azzurre regain control.
Antropova restored order at 17-14, and Giovannini's winning attack completed the 3-0 victory. Italy's next opponent will be Sweden on August 23, followed by Slovakia on August 25 and France on August 26 in the group stage. The group phase is being held across four countries: Turkey, Czech Republic, Azerbaijan, and Sweden.
The top four teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, with round-of-16 matches scheduled from August 30 to September 1, quarterfinals on September 2-3, and semifinals and finals on September 5-6 in Istanbul. Italy's next match is against Sweden on August 23, followed by Slovakia on August 25 and France on August 26.
