An Irish woman was found dead at a house in a suburb near Melbourne, Australia, on Friday morning, and a 45-year-old man has been arrested in connection with her death. Victoria police said emergency services were called to a residential property on Ferntree Gully Road in Ferntree Gully just before 10am on Friday and located an injured woman. Despite efforts to revive her, she was declared dead at the scene.
Police said the woman had yet to be identified. A man, 45, was arrested nearby and remains in custody. Police said it was believed the man and woman were known to each other.
9News, an Australian national news outlet, reported the man had not been charged. A crime scene has been established and homicide squad detectives are attending the scene. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on or online at crimestoppersvic.com.au.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs said the department was aware of the case and was providing consular assistance. As with all consular cases, the department does not comment on the details of individual cases, she said.
