The publisher is seeking to identify the individual allegedly in possession of a version of the game.
Take-Two Interactive has filed multiple subpoenas in a federal district court to force Microsoft and Discord to hand over data that could identify the person who leaked Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay videos online. The legal action, reported by Kotaku, targets OneDrive data, Xbox accounts, and Discord users linked to the leaks. A subpoena filed with the Southern District Court of New York on 20th August states: "The copyrighted material includes but is not limited to audiovisual content, artwork, images, dialogue, or other creative elements.
It adds that Take-Two has submitted a sworn declaration confirming the purpose of the DMCA subpoena is to obtain the identity of an alleged infringer, and that the information will only be used to protect Take-Two's rights. Both Microsoft and Discord have until 4th September to produce all information related to the CyberLeek persona, which has taken credit for the GTA 6 leaks. Take-Two is seeking details from Microsoft including account IDs, registration emails, IP addresses, phone numbers, and linked Xbox and Google accounts.
Discord has been asked to hand over "all user accounts that are/were members communicating with the Discord servers" such as CyberLeek, CinematicRockstar, Surfer24K, Odyssey, and DarkViperAU. The leaks have now stretched into a third day, with a seventh video showing GTA 6's co-protagonist Jason driving a supercar around Vice City. Earlier footage included Jason shooting the word "leek" into a wall, suggesting playable access to the game.
CyberLeek has claimed the leaks are done in the name of gamers' rights, but behind it is a cryptocurrency scheme involving a $CYBERLEEK meme coin. The group wants people to buy the coin to vote for new video leaks, ostensibly to fund "a secret project, though Polygon reported evidence suggesting personal gain. Eurogamer has asked Rockstar for comment.
