Consignment of cocaine worth 325 million euros found in a raid in Liberia

Police have found a large shipment of cocaine in the West African country of Liberia. The drugs have an estimated value of 325 million euros. The cargo was stored in a building near the capital Monrovia.

It is the largest drug seizure in Liberia in recent years, police chief Gregory Coleman told the BBC. Only the street value of the cargo has been disclosed and not the total weight. Two men were arrested during the raid.

One of them has both a Colombian and a Spanish passport, the other is a Serbian. It is still unclear where the shipment of drugs came from and what its final destination was. According to the police, the suspects were monitored for more than a year and a half.

More arrests cannot be ruled out. More drug smuggling through West Africa West Africa has become an important stopover for coke smugglers in recent years. From South America, the drugs are transported to countries such as Liberia and Sierra Leone, with Europe as the final destination.

This has led to an increase in drug addiction in transit countries. More than 30 tons of cocaine were found on a cargo ship south of the Canary Islands in May. This is believed to be the largest ever intercepted shipment of coke.

The drugs were probably loaded in Sierra Leone, investigators have concluded. The smuggling operation was almost certainly coordinated by the network of convicted Dutch drug criminal Jos L., also known as Bolle Jos.
