Navy demobilizes field hospital set up in Venezuela

The Brazilian government demobilized the field hospital set up in Venezuela in support of the victims of the earthquakes that hit the country at the end of June and left more than 5,200 dead, in the last official count. During the period of support at the hospital, managed by the Brazilian Navy, 2,695 treatments were provided. In total, there were 1,764 consultations in general clinic, in cases such as headache, high blood pressure, nausea and dehydration; 356 in orthopedics for traumatology, injuries, joint and muscle pain; 303 pediatric consultations; 257 for psychosocial treatment in diagnoses related to mental health and acute stress, and 15 surgeries.

Part of the 102 soldiers and equipment used in the field hospital, located in the city of La Guaira, have already returned to Brazil on Brazilian Air Force (FAB) flights. The rest of the personnel and material arrived this Tuesday morning (21), in Rio de Janeiro.

On June 24, earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, of very destructive strength, occurred less than a minute apart and caused thousands of collapses in different regions of the country. The most affected areas were La Guaíra and Caracas. The drama experienced in the neighboring country motivated solidarity around the world. Countries such as the United States, China, Brazil, Mexico, the United Kingdom, among others, sent rescue teams, equipment, medicine and food to Venezuela.
