Samsung Display Said It Redesigned the Materials and Structure of the Panel's Organic Light-emitting Layer

Samsung Display has unveiled a 7.6-inch Wide View OLED panel for foldable devices, designed to reduce brightness loss in the folding area and widen viewing angles. The company also showcased a 20-inch flexible OLED display aimed at curved applications such as car cockpits, signage, and humanoid robots. Samsung says current foldable screens can lose brightness along the curved edges of the main folding area, with brightness dropping to about 40% of the level seen at the front of the display.
This occurs because the flexible OLED panel must bend, creating a structural limitation. The new wide-view technology aims to solve this issue. Samsung Display said it redesigned the materials and structure of the panel's organic light-emitting layer.
The 7.6-inch OLED screen offers brighter and more uniform image quality, including the curved sections, when viewed from the front. The technology focuses on improving the viewing experience rather than simply boosting overall panel brightness. Reports indicate Samsung plans to launch two wider Galaxy Z Fold models next year, and this technology could be used in one of them.
In addition to the wide-view technology, Samsung introduced what it calls the world's largest flexible display. The 20-inch screen uses modular tiling technology, and the company says it minimized the border between two panels through ultra-precise panel design and module lamination technology. This display could prove useful in various fields requiring curved or flexible surfaces, including automotive digital cockpits, humanoid robots, and digital signage systems.
