🇹🇷 TürkiyeLaboratory Tests Came Back Positive, Confirming the Presence of the Rabies Virus in Türkiye

Authorities in Ardahan, Turkey, have imposed a quarantine and banned animal entry and exit in the Gürçayır neighborhood after a cow tested positive for rabies. The infected animal was culled and buried in a deep pit to prevent the virus from spreading. The incident began when the owner of a livestock farm in the central Gürçayır neighborhood reported that a cow had suddenly fallen ill.
Veterinarians dispatched to the scene took samples from the suspect animal, which were sent to the Erzurum Veterinary Control and Research Institute for analysis. Laboratory tests came back positive, confirming the presence of the rabies virus. Following the confirmation, animal health teams culled the diseased animal and buried it in a deep pit.
To protect public and animal health, officials launched a quarantine in the neighborhood and banned the entry and exit of animals. A sign reading "There is rabies here" was also placed at the neighborhood entrance.
