🇩🇪 GermanyOf These, 707 Were Completely Destroyed and 3,740 Sustained Partial Damage

At least 8,070 Colombian coffee producers have reported damage to their farms following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck on August 10, according to the National Federation of Coffee Growers (FNC), which has launched an international campaign to support affected families. Of the 10,460 producers surveyed in preliminary data, 709 reported the total destruction of their facilities, while another 6,902 suffered partial damage. The toll remains provisional and could rise as assessments continue in the affected areas.
The earthquake also damaged 4,713 artisanal structures used by growers to process and transform coffee into green beans. Of these, 707 were completely destroyed and 3,740 sustained partial damage. The FNC has assigned 400 agronomist engineers to conduct field inspections across 890 coffee-producing localities where damage has been reported, aiming to assess the earthquake's impact more precisely.
Given the severity of the situation, FNC Director German Bahamon has promoted a campaign targeting Colombian and international organizations and institutions, as well as the national government, to gather support for producers and their families. The federation has not yet quantified the resources needed to address the emergency and begin reconstruction. (ANSA) — This report is based on information from ANSA.
