🇳🇴 NorwayNorway's Oscar Committee Unveils Three-film Shortlist for Academy Award Entry
Norway's Oscar committee on Wednesday unveiled its shortlist of three films vying to become the country's candidate for next year's Academy Awards.
Two are feature films set for release this autumn: Hans Petter Moland's major adaptation of Knut Hamsun's "Markens grøde" (Growth of the Soil) and "Lave forventninger" (Low Expectations) by Eivind Landsverk, which has drawn attention for marking the acting debut of Marie Ulven, the artist known as Girl in Red. The third candidate is the climbing documentary "Trango" by Christopher Carvasal, a climber himself who wove together the stories of two expeditions — one in 1984 and one in 1999 — into a single film. "Trango" is Amanda-nominated both in the documentary category and for best Norwegian film of the year.
According to a press release, the Oscar committee believes these three may have a good chance to stand out in the competition for an Oscar in the best international film category. The committee will convene on September 1 to select one of them.
