Chelsea's Ownership Turmoil Persists Despite New Manager and Strategy Reset

The ownership saga at Chelsea continues to unfold, with internal conflicts among the club's investors showing no signs of abating. The turmoil, which began after Roman Abramovich was forced to sell the club following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, has persisted through multiple managerial changes and strategic overhauls. Todd Boehly emerged as the public face of the winning consortium, bringing in US sports mogul Mark Walter and Swiss businessman Hansjörg Wyss as minority investors with a combined 12.8% stake.
Private equity firm Clearlake Capital acquired a 61.6% majority, installing Behdad Eghbali and José E Feliciano as key decision-makers. However, the initial excitement of beating 11 rival bidders in a fast-tracked process quickly gave way to fundamental disagreements over the club's direction, including how to address an aging stadium and how to structure the sporting operation. The challenges have proven far more complex than the smooth-running operation Abramovich appeared to oversee.
