🇬🇷 GreeceNile Virus Is Spreading in Greece, With the First Case in Central Greece Detected in the City of Thiva, According to Greek Media Reports

A person under 65 who went to Thiva Hospital with severe headaches tested positive for the virus in laboratory tests. The patient, who has no chronic conditions, is reported to be in good health. Following the detection of the case, teams from the Central Greece Regional Administration launched urgent and targeted mosquito spraying around Thiva.
The region's ongoing mosquito control program is also being carried out on a daily basis. According to data from Greece's National Public Health Organization (EODY), 65 cases have been detected in the country from the start of the year through August 5, and six people over the age of 65 have died. By August of last year, Greece had recorded 35 West Nile virus cases. For the full year 2025, the case count rose to 96, with 10 deaths attributed to the virus.
