🇮🇳 IndiaIndia's Unique Identification Authority Has Completed Mandatory Biometric Updates for Over 2 Crore School Children's Aadhaar Cards

The Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) is required when a child turns 5 and again at 15. For children under 5, Aadhaar enrolment captures only demographic details and a photograph, as fingerprints and iris scans are still developing at that age. MBU ensures the child's Aadhaar continues to hold updated biometric information. Without MBU, children may face difficulties in authentication for receiving government scheme benefits and registering for competitive and university exams such as NEET, JEE, and CUET.
The special drive began in September 2025. UIDAI waived charges for MBU for children aged 7–15 from 1 October 2025 for one year, while updates for the 5–7 and 15–17 age groups remain free. As a result, MBU is free for children aged 5–17 until 30 September 2026. UIDAI has urged parents and guardians to complete the MBU for their children. The initiative was enabled by UIDAI's technological integration with the Unified District Information System for Education Plus, which provides visibility of children's MBU status at schools.
