The death toll from a collision between a passenger bus and a truck in Milas district of Muğla, Turkey, has risen to four after a police officer who was seriously injured in the crash died in hospital. Mehmet Arif Şefkatlı, who was assigned to the Sports Security Branch of the Istanbul Police Department, had been taken to Milas State Hospital by ambulance with fractures and internal bleeding. Despite all medical interventions, he could not be saved.
The accident occurred on the Söke-Milas highway when a passenger bus traveling from Istanbul to Bodrum, driven by Hamit Torun, collided with a truck loaded with iron, driven by İlter D., which was moving in the same direction. Bus driver Torun and passenger Mustafa Saydam died at the scene, while 18 injured people were taken to nearby hospitals by medical teams. Among the seriously injured, Songül Demir also died despite treatment at a private hospital in the district. With Şefkatlı's death, the number of fatalities in the accident has increased to four, while 16 injured people continue to receive treatment.
