Mehmet Korkmaz (18), Hüseyin Korkmaz (23), and Yasin Korkmaz (24), Who Were Cousins, Lost Their Lives in the Accident in Türkiye

Three cousins were killed and one person was seriously injured in a head-on collision between two cars in Birecik district of Şanlıurfa, Turkey, on Tuesday evening. The crash occurred on the Şanlıurfa-Birecik highway at the 20th kilometer near Arat Dağı. The two vehicles, approaching from the Şanlıurfa and Gaziantep directions, collided head-on.

The impact sent both cars careening off the road, with one overturning. Mehmet Korkmaz (18), Hüseyin Korkmaz (23), and Yasin Korkmaz (24), who were cousins, lost their lives in the accident. Salih Akgöz was also injured.

Following the crash, other drivers alerted authorities, prompting traffic police, gendarmerie, and medical teams to be dispatched to the scene. Rescuers extracted Mehmet Korkmaz and Salih Akgöz from the vehicles, and they were taken to Birecik State Hospital after initial treatment. Hüseyin Korkmaz and Yasin Korkmaz, who were in the overturned car, died at the scene despite all rescue efforts.

Mehmet Korkmaz, who was receiving treatment in the emergency room, could not be saved despite doctors' efforts. The other injured person's treatment is ongoing. The drivers and license plates of the vehicles have not yet been identified.
