Eleven people have been indicted in Washington, D.C., for allegedly running a scheme that connected Chinese nationals with Americans through fraudulent marriages to secure U.S. residency. Ten of the defendants were arrested last week in New York. According to the indictment, the ring charged foreign clients up to 1 million kroner (about $95,000) to marry an American citizen. The American spouses, some of whom were soldiers, were paid roughly 300,000 kroner (about $28,500) for their participation.
