🇨🇴 ColombiaColombia Earthquake Aid Pours Into Bogotá Stadium As Rescue Teams Search Rubble
Bogotá's Nemesio Camacho El Campín stadium has become Colombia's largest humanitarian aid collection center after the devastating earthquake of August 10, with more than 700 tons of supplies shipped from the venue in five days.
According to Sencia, the organization coordinating operations, over 7,000 volunteers have worked around the clock since August 10. Images show the stadium parking lot filled with supplies and a long chain of volunteers unloading, sorting, packing and preparing aid for affected populations. The mobilization follows the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck western Colombia at 7:34 a.m. on August 10. According to the Colombian Geological Service, the epicenter was located in San José del Palmar, in the Chocó department, at a depth of 103 kilometers. The quake was felt across much of the country and beyond Colombia's borders.
The provisional death toll stands at about 290 people, with over 4,000 injured and more than 140 still missing. The destruction affected a vast area of central-western Colombia, particularly Cali, Pereira, Manizales and Quibdó, where homes and public buildings collapsed or were severely damaged.
