American Tourist Dies After Lightning Strike on Mount Etna in Italy

The man was rescued by helicopter and arrived at the hospital already in cardiac arrest. The victim, a U.S. national, had reportedly been climbing the volcano on Sunday along a forbidden zone with the aim of getting closer to the summit. He was caught in a violent thunderstorm that generated the electrical discharge that hit him. The 30-year-old was found already in serious condition.
