🇹🇷 TürkiyeImamoglu, the Jailed Mayor in Türkiye

The new session will take place in a newly built courtroom with a capacity of 2,295 people, constructed at a cost exceeding 1 billion Turkish liras. In the first hearing, which lasted four months, a total of 414 defendants were tried, including 107 detainees. Currently, 59 defendants remain in custody.
During the upcoming hearing, Imamoglu's lawyers are expected to request that he be permitted to make his defense statement. At the previous hearing, an attempt was made to limit Imamoglu's defense to 1.5 days. When he objected, he was removed from the courtroom.
Following the ensuing argument, the judge ruled that Imamoglu had "used his right to remain silent" without even completing his identity verification. Lawyers are also expected to raise procedural errors made during the first hearing and make requests on behalf of their clients. The court is reportedly aiming to complete the defenses and other proceedings within approximately two months.
The second hearing is expected to follow a busy schedule due to the defenses. In a video shared on social media, Imamoglu said: "Just as hope came to this old courtyard on a sparrow's wing, prosperity, happiness and justice will come to this country. I will not forget July 21st, when this little bird landed in my courtyard.
Don't you forget it either, and don't let others forget it. Muharrem Ince from the opposition CHP party visited Imamoglu and said: "Imamoglu has been an unjustly held prisoner for 510 days! I visited him.
He sends his regards to all of you. As the second hearing of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) case, led by the Istanbul 33rd Heavy Penal Court, begins, procedural violations from the first hearing have come back into focus. Enes Ermaner, lawyer for Ramazan Gulen, the detained head of IBB's Urbanization and Housing Department, argued that six critical procedural violations occurred: The hearing began without identity verification, the defense was restricted, unjustified decisions were made, defendants were removed from the courtroom, and a decision was made that Imamoglu used his right to remain silent. All of these are grounds for reversal.
