Emphasizing Ankara's Support for Damascus, Erdogan Said Peace and Stability Would Benefit All of Syria's People in Türkiye

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he has received a commitment from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Turkey's return to the F-35 fighter jet program, and he expects that promise to be fulfilled. In an interview with Al Jazeera, Erdogan addressed Turkey's foreign policy agenda, covering the F-35 program, the Mecca Agreement, Syria, Gaza, and relations with the European Union. "I expect the promise to be kept, Erdogan said regarding the F-35s. Erdogan said the Mecca Agreement signed between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan sends an important message to the world.

He noted the pact could be expanded in the future, with Egypt's participation among the options. Emphasizing Ankara's support for Damascus, Erdogan said peace and stability would benefit all of Syria's people. He also announced plans to visit Syria.

On Gaza, Erdogan delivered a clear message: "We cannot leave Gaza alone. He stressed that Hamas has fulfilled its commitments in good faith while Israel continues the war, adding that Israel's ongoing attacks are a serious concern for Ankara. Regarding EU relations, Erdogan said the bloc does not appear willing to accept Turkey as a member. He stated that membership is no longer a priority for Turkey, warning that "Europe would be the loser" in that scenario.
