🇺🇸 United StatesLam Research to Invest $3B in Global Lab Network Expansion
Lam Research, a US Fortune 500 semiconductor equipment maker, plans to invest more than $3 billion over the next five years to expand its global research and development laboratory network, boosting experimental capacity by over 50% across the United States, Asia, and Europe.
The multi-site expansion is set to begin in 2026. The company said the investment aims to shorten product development cycles as chipmakers demand new materials, architectures, and manufacturing processes for increasingly complex computing systems. Lam's worldwide laboratory infrastructure currently supports more than one million experiments annually. Rather than operating as isolated facilities, Lam's laboratories share equipment data, research findings, and specialist expertise across locations and time zones, allowing research to continue around the clock.
A discovery made at one facility can quickly become available to researchers elsewhere, enabling multiple stages of semiconductor development to move forward simultaneously. The network includes laboratories dedicated to foundational work involving new chemicals, materials, and mechatronic systems.
