Argentine Woman Arrested in Tokyo for Smuggling Cocaine in Body Capsules

Rosa Micaela Kipildor is accused of entering the Asian country with the drugs on August 10. According to the investigation, she had traveled from the United Kingdom and arrived alone at Haneda Airport. Customs officials there became suspicious of her behavior and decided to subject her to an inspection. An X-ray revealed 101 cocoon-shaped capsules inside her body, wrapped in plastic and a black rubber-like material.

In total, the wrappings contained approximately one kilogram of cocaine, with an estimated retail value of US$152,160. Japanese media including FNN, TBS News Dig and TV Asahi reported that the Tokyo Metropolitan Police said the capsules measured about 5.2 centimeters in length and that the drug was wrapped in a double layer. During questioning, Kipildor admitted to the charges. According to information released by those outlets, she stated that a woman she had met at a festival in Argentina had made her the proposal.
