Fenerbahçe's Current Debt Stands at 27 Billion 961 Million Lira in Türkiye

Turkish football clubs are spending recklessly on transfers despite mounting debts, according to columnist Mehmet Çetingüleç, who warns that the four biggest clubs owe more than 89 billion lira combined. Trabzonspor has nearly 6 billion lira in debt, the lowest among the big four, but could sink back into trouble if current spending continues, Çetingüleç wrote in Diken. Fenerbahçe's current debt stands at 27 billion 961 million lira.

Famous businessmen keep coming and going as club president, yet the debt does not shrink. The club signs world-renowned coaches and players but still cannot win the championship. Meanwhile, shareholders who bought stakes in Beşiktaş, Galatasaray and Trabzonspor are being "robbed" through rights issues as clubs seek new funds.

Over the past two years, investors in all four big clubs have suffered heavy losses. Çetingüleç said clubs are "spending millions of euros into thin air" on transfers and demanded that club executives answer one question: With what money will you pay the transfer fees?
