Senegal Professor Warns Casamance Conflict Could Fuel Jihadism

A Senegalese professor has warned that the long-running Casamance conflict could open the door to jihadism in the region.
Professor Ibou Sané of Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis said the unresolved separatist insurgency in Casamance, which has lasted over four decades, creates a vacuum that extremist groups could exploit. He urged the government to accelerate peace efforts and address the root causes of the conflict, including economic marginalization and social grievances, to prevent the spread of violent extremism.
