Difficult Terrain on a Slope Hampered the Operation

More than 300 emergency responders battled a forest fire in Lower Franconia, Germany, on Saturday. The blaze near Rechtenbach in the Main-Spessart district was brought under control by the afternoon, according to a fire department spokesperson, though extinguishing work continued. The fire affected an area of roughly 7,000 square meters.

Difficult terrain on a slope hampered the operation. The Technical Relief Agency (THW), the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK), and police were also involved. The nearby federal highway B26 had to be temporarily closed.

A second forest fire broke out late Friday evening in Höchheim in the Rhön-Grabfeld district. Around 200 responders spent several hours extinguishing that blaze, according to police. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries.
