NFL Linebacker Bart Scott Revealed That the Network Informed Him He Was Being Let Go Just Minutes Before His Radio Show Was Set to Air

Scott, who co-hosted the "Bart & Carlin" show on ESPN Radio, said he received the call while heading into the studio. "I was going in to my radio show and they called me and was like, 'Hey, just to let you know — wish we could do it in person. Like, no you don't [expletive], Scott said during an appearance on "The Joint Venture Show" with Lil Wayne and Craig Carton.

"They were like, 'We're not going to renew you. My contract is expiring in September, so like, I found out that way. Scott acknowledged the business realities of the situation, saying, "It's part of the business, you know what I mean.

He added that he had never experienced a contract expiring before because he was typically renewed while still under contract. Despite the abrupt notice, Scott expressed no ill will toward ESPN, noting he genuinely enjoyed his time with the company and that "sometimes losing your job can be some of the biggest blessings.

The revelation comes weeks after ESPN faced similar backlash for laying off analyst Ryan Clark while he was live on air — he was told during a commercial break and did not finish the final 10 minutes of his program. The network also released beloved analyst Damien Woody, who had been with ESPN for 15 years and still had a year left on his contract. Fans took to social media to criticize ESPN's handling of its layoffs.
