Firefighting Teams, Operating From Both Air and Ground, Managed to Bring the Blaze Under Control and Extinguish It in Türkiye

A 22-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with a forest fire that broke out in the Edremit district of Balıkesir, Turkey. The suspect, identified only as Y.Ç., was detained by gendarmerie forces and later arrested by a court. The fire started around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday in a non-forest area near the Kadıköy neighborhood of Edremit.

Strong winds quickly spread the flames to the nearby forest. Firefighting teams, operating from both air and ground, managed to bring the blaze under control and extinguish it. Following the incident, a special team was established under the Edremit District Gendarmerie Command to investigate the cause of the fire.

The team apprehended Y.Ç. on the same day. After processing at the gendarmerie, Y.Ç. was referred to the Edremit Courthouse, where he was arrested by a magistrate judge. Investigations revealed that the suspect had attempted to start a fire using a device made of stones. Sparks from this device ignited dry grass, and the growing flames spread to a pine forest and olive groves.
