Descendants of Korean Independence Activists to Throw First Pitches on Liberation Day in South Korea

At Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul, where the LG Twins face the SSG Landers, actress Park Hwan-hee, a descendant of independence activist Ha Jong-jin, will throw the first pitch. Ha began his independence movement in March 1919 by distributing Taegeukgi flags during a protest in Hamyang, South Gyeongsang Province, and later led student movements. He was imprisoned at Seodaemun Prison in 1923 for leading a streetcar company strike against ethnic discrimination and was arrested again in 1925 for organizing a secret society.

The government posthumously awarded him the Order of Merit for National Foundation in 1990. Park said through the LG club, It is an honor to stand on the mound on this meaningful Liberation Day. I am grateful for the freedom we enjoy thanks to my grandfather and other independence activists.
