Colombia's President Abelardo De La Espriella declared a national disaster on Monday, August 10, after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck the country, and announced he would declare an economic emergency to address the calamity. Interior Minister Rodrigo Lara revealed that the hospital network in Buenaventura is overwhelmed by the impact of the quake. The president also announced an agreement with the private construction sector to support relief and reconstruction efforts in the affected areas. The Colombian Geological Service reported the strong tremor during the morning of Monday, August 10.
