SA Water has today opened four spillway gates at Mt Bold Reservoir after its storage levels jumped from 69 per cent to 95 per cent in a matter of days. The Mount Bold catchment has received more than 13 billion litres of water since the start of last weekend, with more than 5 billion litres arriving in the 24 hours to 8am on Monday alone. Released water is being diverted to Happy Valley Reservoir.
About 18 billion litres flowed into SA Water's metropolitan reservoirs in the same period, the highest daily combined volume since September 2016. Waterfalls across the region roared to life, including Morialta Falls in the city's east and the Mannum Waterfalls in the Murraylands. Mt Bold Reservoir received 5 billion litres on Sunday, with a further 8 billion since, meaning storage has more than tripled since the start of winter.
