Farage Received 22,239 Votes in the Election

Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform Party, won the by-election held in Clacton, England, on Thursday. Farage received 22,239 votes in the election. His main rival, Count Binface, received 9,455 votes.

The other 32 candidates each received fewer than 500 votes. Farage was not present when the final results were announced, although it is customary for all candidates to be present when the results are read out. He says Essex police warned him that the results would be disrupted in an organized manner.

Sources at the BBC say this is not true and that police issued no warnings to candidates. The Reform Party has also canceled a morning speech by Farage that was planned after the election, which the party had promoted as an important address. Thirty-four candidates competed for the parliamentary seat, which was previously Farage's seat before he resigned in July.

He was criticized for not registering gifts and other financial support he received before being elected to the British parliament in 2024. Turnout in the by-election was 44.37%. In the 2024 general election, turnout in Clacton was somewhat higher at 58.7%.
