Cüneyt Mostura, a beekeeper in Kazlıköy village affiliated with Ardahan's central district, expressed satisfaction with this year's harvest. The region's rich vegetation and natural flora make it a significant hub for beekeeping. Mostura, who graduated from Ardahan University's beekeeping department in 2010 and manages 1,200 colonies, said he has been practicing beekeeping for about 16 years.
We work with the Caucasian bee in this region. Since it is a very calm bee breed, it is possible to work without a mask. This year we are offering honey for sale at prices ranging between 1,500 and 1,900 TL per kilo, Mostura said.
The Caucasian bee stands out for its resistance to cold climate conditions and its long tongue, which enhances its nectar-collecting ability. During the extraction process, beekeepers remove ripe honey from the combs and prepare it for straining. The harvest, which requires great effort and care, yields honey that carries distinctive aroma and flavor characteristics combined with Ardahan's high altitude and natural flora. With the first harvest of the 2026 production season completed, beekeepers are pleased.
