🇺🇸 United StatesA 25% Tariff Is Planned for Smaller Drones

President Donald Trump has signed a presidential proclamation imposing tariffs of up to 100% on imports of drones and drone components, in a move aimed at countering Chinese dominance of the industry. The White House said the goal is to "encourage production" of drones in the United States, "reduce dependence" on foreign suppliers, and protect national security. The proclamation, signed Thursday, August 13, and published by the White House, justifies the decision on national security grounds.
The drone industry is currently dominated by China. Under the new rules, a 100% tariff will apply to drones with a takeoff weight exceeding 25 kilograms, those equipped with thermal cameras, drone docking stations, and certain components. A 25% tariff is planned for smaller drones.
Chinese company DJI, founded in 2006, has captured more than two-thirds of the global drone market in recent years, according to several studies. Most of the new tariffs are set to take effect on September 3.
