Police Believe the Boys Were Able to Leave Their Home and Enter the Nearby Lake

Two toddlers, aged one and two, drowned in a lake in a remote northern Manitoba First Nation on Wednesday afternoon, according to RCMP. The boys were found in the lake by a family member in Garden Hill Anisininew Nation, about 610 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg. They were brought to the community's nursing station by First Nation Safety Officers, where they were pronounced dead.

Police believe the boys were able to leave their home and enter the nearby lake. Foul play is not suspected, but the investigation continues. Sgt. Chris Hipolito of the Island Lake detachment said the drownings have been devastating for the family and the entire community. RCMP are continuing to investigate the incident.
