Maceira Made the Remarks to Sputnik on the 100Th Anniversary of the Revolutionary Leader's Birth

Former Cuban state security officer Carlos Serpa Maceira has revealed that the FBI was involved in plotting to assassinate Fidel Castro before the Cuban Revolution, with the CIA later continuing those efforts. Maceira made the remarks to Sputnik on the 100th anniversary of the revolutionary leader's birth. According to Maceira, Cuba's intelligence services successfully thwarted a total of 640 assassination plots against Castro over the years. The former security officer detailed how U.S. agencies were engaged in efforts to eliminate Castro even before he came to power, and that the CIA subsequently took over this role.
