Gardaí and Emergency Services Received Reports of a Person in the Annalee River at Drumaraw, Ballyhaise, at 8.30Pm on Tuesday

A man who drowned after falling into the Annalee river in Co Cavan has been named locally as James Anthony Fanthorpe McHugh. Gardaí and emergency services received reports of a person in the Annalee river at Drumaraw, Ballyhaise, at 8.30pm on Tuesday. The man, aged in his 20s and from Ballyhaise, is believed to have been fishing when he fell into the river and got into difficulty.

Emergency personnel attempted to revive him after his body was recovered from the water, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene, gardaí said. His body has been removed to Cavan Mortuary, where a postmortem will be arranged at Our Lady's National Hospital Navan.
