Sweden's Court of Appeal, After Three People Were Shot Dead Inside a Hair Salon in Uppsala the Day Before Walpurgis Night Last Year

The life-sentenced gunman is now seeking acquittal. In May, 21-year-old Fredric Gülich Brendling was sentenced to life in prison despite pleading not guilty, after shooting dead three people aged 15, 16 and 20 inside a hair salon at Vaksala torg. The killings, described as an execution, took place during the afternoon rush the day before Walpurgis Night.

The 21-year-old was also convicted of four counts of attempted murder, two of them in Eslöv in southern Sweden. He has appealed the verdict and wants the Court of Appeal to consider, among other things, that the balaclava allegedly worn by the killer contained DNA from other people besides himself. An 18-year-old, sentenced to seven years in prison for aiding and abetting the murders, is also seeking a new review.

His lawyer argues that the district court failed to consider all evidence and misjudged certain evidence. "The district court made an incorrect assessment of the evidence, Anette Der Danielian, lawyer for the 18-year-old, has previously said. During the two-week trial starting Wednesday, the Court of Appeal will also review the verdict against a 26-year-old sentenced to four years and ten months in prison for aggravated harboring of a criminal.

The man admitted handling the weapons used in the murders but said he did not know what they were used for. "He therefore did not know that he would be protecting a criminal, said Kronje Samuelsson, lawyer for the 26-year-old.
