Nine Press Freedom Groups Urge Action on Journalist Safety

The groups issued a joint statement on Tuesday, urging governments and international bodies to strengthen legal protections for journalists and to hold accountable those who attack or intimidate them. The appeal follows a series of recent incidents in which reporters have been killed, detained, or harassed while carrying out their work. The organisations also called for the release of all journalists currently imprisoned solely for their reporting and for an end to impunity for crimes committed against the press.
