Gander Welcomes 'Plane People' Back on Sombre 9/11 Anniversary
The reunion in Gander marked a quarter-century since the attacks, when the town of about 10,000 people took in nearly 7,000 stranded travelers after U.S. airspace was closed.
Residents opened their homes, schools, and community centers to the visitors, who became known as the 'plane people. The anniversary events included a memorial service, a moment of silence, and a community dinner, as residents and former guests shared stories of kindness and resilience.
