The expansion also comes at a time when the QSR chains have been witnessing an uptick in same-store sales growth and consumption recovery in the past few quarters. Connaught Plaza Restaurants Pvt Ltd (CPRL), which operates McDonald’s outlets in the the northern and eastern regions of the country, aims to rapidly ramp up its footprint with over 500 stores in the next 2-3 years. Riding on the growing traction for coffee consumption, the company is also rapidly scaling up the presence of its sub-brand McCafe, which is the in-store beverage offering of global major McDonald’s. Anant Agarwal, Vice-Chairperson, CPRL (McDonald’s India- North & East), told businessline: At the beginning of the year, we had close to 300 stores.
Talking about future strategy for McCafe, Agarwal said nearly 200 of the company’s stores now offer the McCafe experience to consumers. The coffee consumption in India is witnessing a strong traction, especially among Gen Z and millennial consumers. We have been focusing on capitalising on this growth and have scaled up the presence of McCafe rapidly.
We have now increased to about 200 stores, and will ramp it up to about 350 stores. The idea is to democratise coffee consumption with good quality offerings at the right price points, he added.
