🇨🇴 ColombiaColombia Earthquake Kills at Least 132 As Rescue Efforts Continue
A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Colombia on Monday, killing at least 132 people and causing widespread destruction across several cities, authorities said.
The quake triggered structural damage and prompted evacuations in multiple urban centers, with officials confirming casualties in various parts of the country. In Manizales, one of the hardest-hit cities, residents gathered to survey the ruins of collapsed buildings while police officers patrolled streets lined with damaged structures. Emergency services were seen clearing debris from the rubble, and a vehicle was crushed under falling masonry.
The city's Catedral Basílica Metropolitana de Nuestra Señora del Rosario also suffered damage in the tremor. In Cali, volunteers and rescue teams worked side by side to remove debris from partially collapsed buildings, while in Bogotá, people streamed out of office towers and homes as the ground shook. The quake has been described as the worst of the century in Colombia, striking a poor, isolated and forgotten region where local officials say the city is overwhelmed.
