A Statue in Grand Junction, Colorado, Honors James Dalton Trumbo, the Oscar-winning Screenwriter Who Was Blacklisted During the Mccarthy Era

The sculpture depicts Trumbo writing in a bathtub, a habit he was known for. Trumbo, a Colorado native born in Montrose, moved to Grand Junction in 1908. He graduated from Grand Junction High School, worked as a reporter for the local paper, and attended the University of Colorado Boulder. He wrote several Hollywood films, including Roman Holiday (1953) and Spartacus (1960), and won two Academy Awards. Trumbo was one of ten left-leaning directors and screenwriters who refused to testify before the House Committee on Un-American Activities, leading to his blacklisting.
