U.S. President Donald Trump said he will demand compensation from Iran for the people it has killed over the past 50 years, in response to Tehran's request for military reparations. In a post on his social media account, Trump addressed reports that Iran was seeking war reparations from the United States. "Iran is demanding compensation for damages incurred during five months of military conflict (the conflict started because they did not have nuclear weapons), yet this issue was never raised in any of our negotiations, he said.

Trump said he is prepared to counter Iran's demand by seeking compensation for the people Iran has "killed over the last 50 years. He recalled that soldiers led by Iranian General Qasem Soleimani killed many people in various regions. He also said families of those killed on the USS Cole and protesters killed during demonstrations in Iran should be compensated.

The U.S. president added that they will pursue the compensation issue "firmly" in future negotiations. In a second social media post, Trump expanded his demand, saying, In the context of negotiations, Iran should also be held responsible for the damage and loss of life inflicted on the people of Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Gaza.
